Deborah Schmidt

Deborah (Debi) Helen Schmidt, 69, of Mandan, ND passed away suddenly on Tuesday March 26th, 2024, of natural causes. Her loss was completely unexpected, and her family is profoundly saddened. With Debi’s baking abilities heaven got a little sweeter.

A Celebration of Debi’s Life will be held on April 8th at the Arctic Room, 2124 E Thayer Ave, Bismarck from 1:00 PM till 4:30 PM with a time for sharing stories. Interment will follow the celebration of life at Menoken Cemetery.

Debi was born on April 29th, 1954 to Orville and Bernice (Mittelstedt) Gabel. She was the second of four children. She attended Wachter Grade School, Simle Middle School and graduated from Bismarck High School in 1972.

Debi married Robert (Bob) Schmidt on November 20, 1981. She spoiled her nieces and nephews so much they did not want to go home. It was always a great time at Aunt Deb’s house.

Debi worked at Montgomery Wards, LaBelle’s (Best), US Bank, and Cross Country. She found her true passion at Edgewood Vista in Bismarck, ND. where she worked until her passing. She loved her residents and team members. Her other passion in life was baking. Debi loved to bake, especially during the holidays. She always made sure everyone left with containers of leftovers and a major stash of treats. If there was something special going on she would be the first to volunteer to bake treats. She was also fabulous at baking bread and buns. She was the Queen of the kitchen. 

She leaves behind her husband Robert, siblings and their spouses. They include: Cyndy (Stan) Meidinger of Bismarck; their children, Jenny (Jim) Kasa, of MN; their children Noah (Annalise) and Caleb; Joel Geist, of MN; Kelly (Darren) Murray, of Mercer; their daughter Morgan (Mitch) Lang; their children, Reese and Quinn of Turtle Lake, Jason (Jamie) Meidinger; their children, Jameson, Joss, and Jace of Turtle Lake. Lois (Daymon) Mills, Menoken; their sons, Daymon Jr. (Lori) Mills; their daughter Katrina Mills; her daughter Ophelia of Bismarck. Wade and (Kerri) Mills of Moffit; and their daughter Crystal (Carter) Trefz of Menoken. Bill (Gerlynn); their son Dan Gabel; all of Bismarck. Debi had two special children in her life: Nataeha Osborne and Brysben Irvin of Bismarck. Debi also leaves behind four sisters-in-law: Sharon Schmidt (Jake Sauter) of Mandan, Sandy (Alan) Doffee, Sheila (Jeff) Diede, Steph (Shawn) Mittlestadt & one brother-in-law Ron Schmidt all of Bismarck. Deb leaves behind nieces & nephews, great nieces & nephews, and great great nieces & nephews.

Debi was preceded in death by her parents Orville and Bernice, mother and father-in-law Steven and Catherine (Katie) (Neigum) Schmidt and their sons, Sebastian and Randy Schmidt, and niece Danyle Ellwein.
