Delane Haadem Slaughter of Bismarck, ND, died February 9, 2018, at Sanford Health, Bismarck. Services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, February 15, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 7111 Williamson Dr., Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Wednesday, February 14, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E. Divide Ave., Bismarck. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Delane was the son of Clyde and Ida (Haadem) Slaughter and was born and raised on the farm near Tappen, ND. Delane was drafted into the Army in 1953. He did his basic training in Little Rock, AR, served eight months in Fort Benning, GA, and then eight months in Germany. After his service, he bought a farm near Tappen, where he eventually became a dairy farmer, milking 70 head of cattle. Delane married Janis Hust on June 4, 1971, and together they raised their six children. Delane was active in the community. He was supervisor on the township board for 30 years, a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Tappen and the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Bismarck. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion. Delane is survived by his wife, Janis Slaughter, Bismarck; his children, Wade (Sandy) Devereaux, Fargo, Karan Devereaux, Fargo, Terrill (Bobbie) Slaughter, Moorhead, MN, Brian (Stacy) Slaughter, Minot, Jason (Charlee) Slaughter, Des Moines, IA, and DeeJan (Shawn) Amundson, Fargo; his brother, Harold (Marie) Slaughter; sister, Ivy Jean Knight, PA; eight grandsons, seven granddaughters, five great-grandsons, six great-granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews. Delane was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and three sisters.
