Delores C. Netzer, 99, Bismarck, ND died Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at the CHI St Alexius Medical Center.
A gathering with sharing of memories will be held from 11:00 am -12:30 pm Wednesday, May 8, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E. Divide Ave., Bismarck. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Jamestown, ND.
Delores was born December 21, 1919 in Jud, ND to Emanuel and Katherine (Fode) Kalmbach. She attended school in LaMoure County and graduated from the 8th grade in 1934. She married Albert Netzer July 27th, 1943, and they made their home on a farm west of Jud where they had one daughter.
Delores came of age during hard times which gave her a drive in life. In 1962, they moved to Alfred, ND where Delores owned and operated a grocery store while her husband owned and operated the Alfred Bar. In 1970, they moved to Gackle where they owned the Gackle Laundromat. At this time, Delores also worked at the Gackle Meat Packing Plant until she retired in 1981. In 2001, she moved to Bismarck where she lived independently until her move in 2017 to the Baptist Care Center.
Delores had many hidden talents. In her earlier years, Delores taught herself to play guitar and accordion. She and Albert played in a band for a short time traveling around the local area. Albert died in 1981.
Before Albert died, he came down with an illness where he needed to have dialysis administered three times a week. Since the nearest hospital was a number of miles away, Delores learned how to perform the dialysis procedure in their home. The training needed for this procedure was attainable in Minneapolis which required her taking an airplane ride. Being 60 years old and having never flown before, made it quite an experience for her.
While in Gackle, Delores was a member of the Gackle Assembly of God Church which she took part in and enjoyed until its closure.
She is survived by her daughter, Julie (Alvin) Roe, Bismarck; grandchildren, Brittany (DJ) Winder and James Roe, Mandan; step-grandchild, Allysea (Gus) Gantzer, Bismarck; great grandchildren, Samantha Evenson and Tilda Winder; step great grandchildren, Logan Pudwill and Calleigh Starck. Also surviving are one nephew and one great nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother and sister in law, Harry and Annie Kalmbach and one niece, Lori Geinert.
