Diane Marie Swenson (Paul), 72, Bismarck, ND, died Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at Sanford Health in Bismarck. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 am Saturday, November 24, at Church of St. Mary, 806 E. Broadway Ave., Bismarck, with Deacon Terry Glatt officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Friday, November 23, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with a rosary/vigil at 7:00 pm. Diane was born on November 12, 1946, in Linton, ND, to Bernhard and Gertrude (Bachmeier) Paul. She grew up in Emmons County west of Strasburg, and graduated from Strasburg High School in 1964. She married Vince Swenson at First Lutheran Church in Mandan, ND, on January 6, 1990. They both worked for the State of North Dakota. Diane worked in the Treasurer’s Office, for Governor Sinner through two terms, and retired from the North Dakota State Supreme Court in 2011. Diane’s favorite way to spend her time was with her husband, children, grandchildren, and all of her family and friends. She loved to travel with her husband, garden, quilt, and bake and cook for her family. Diane is survived by her husband, Vince of Bismarck; her son, Dean (Shalee) Johnson of Geneseo, IL; her daughter, Adria (John) Hemmen of Coal Valley, IL; her step-son, David Swenson of Bismarck; sisters, Marilyn Thayer of Hillsboro, OR, and Ellen (Mike) Nagel of Linton; grandchildren, Trace and Ty Johnson, Morgan and Zachary Hemmen, Ben (Denyle) Swenson, and Carman Swenson (engaged to Kelby Stoner); great-grandchildren, Truman and Lesley Swenson, and Alaina, Karson, and Hendricks Stoner; brothers-in-law Daryl, Boyd, and Steve Swenson; sisters-in-law, Linda Paul, Marge Paul, Leanne Fried, Lynette Quanvig, Melody Monson, and Donzetta Strandjord; and many beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins near and far.She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister, Caroline; and brothers, Wilhard “Bill” Paul, and Lawrence “Larry” Paul.
