Donald Dean Henriksen, 70, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2018 at CHI St. Alexius surrounded by his loving family. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 28th at 1:00pm at First Presbyterian Church, Bismarck. Graveside ceremony will take place at 10:00am on Monday, April 30th at the ND Veterans Cemetery in Mandan. Donald was born on May 21, 1947, to Raymond & Helen (Barros) Henriksen. He attended schools in Alexandria, MN and Mountain Lake, MN before graduating from Milaca High School in Milaca, MN in 1965. Don enlisted in the United States Army, 82nd Airborne Division, and earned the rank of sergeant during his tour. During his time in the Army, Don married Kathleen Rae Mycue from Milaca, MN. They returned to Minnesota where he graduated from St. Cloud State University. He started his career working at Larson Boat Works and they later moved to Bismarck where he worked at Melroe-Bobcat as a cost accountant (until his retirement in 2001) while raising two sons. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time outdoors with his sons and grandchildren. He also enjoyed woodworking and refinishing antiques. He volunteered by coaching his sons’ summer soccer teams, served as President of the Capital City Soccer Club and was an assistant soccer coach at Bismarck High School. Don also served as “manager” of the Melroe Plowboys softball teams for a number of years. He was a fan of the Duke Blue Devils, long time Vikings season ticket holder and a lifelong Twins fan. He also had the privilege of attending Game 7 of the 1991 World Series with his son Jeremy. Don was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bismarck and served as a Deacon and on the Business and Finance Committee. Most of all, Don loved to spend time with his grandchildren. He looked forward to attending their sporting events, dance programs and music concerts. He was a positive influence in their lives and always encouraged them to do their best in everything they do. Don is survived by his wife, Kathy; two sons, Chris (Dawn) and Jeremy (Jennifer); grandchildren Mallory, Drew, Logan, Sydney and Bennet; two brothers, Gary and Alan (Shannon); sister-in law Marilyn (Gary) Gilman; brother-in law Rich (Judy) Mycue; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his father and mother-in law. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church Christian Education Fund or a charity of your choice.
