Donald “Don” Marx, 84, Bismarck, died July 26, 2018, at Miller Pointe Nursing Home, Mandan. Services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, August 3, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with Rev. Dale Nabben officiating. Military graveside services will be at 12:00 Friday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be held from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm Thursday, August 2, at Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck. Donald “Don” Terrance Marx was born January 26, 1934, in Dickinson, ND, the son of Peter and Cecelia (Gordon) Marx. He attended grade school at St. Patrick’s School in Dickinson. In January of 1950, he began working at the Dickinson Press as a printer. In 1954 he married Eleanor “Ellie” Thomas at St. Patrick’s Church in Dickinson. In 1965, Don enlisted in the ND Army National Guard; the following year he was proud to receive his GED and began full-time employment with the National Guard as an administrative supply technician in Dickinson. In 1967, Don was transferred with the Guard to Bismarck headquarters and in 1972, was appointed operations and training specialist, the position he held with several National Guard Headquarters Organizations. In December 1978, he was promoted to Sgt. Major which he held until his retirement in January 1994. Don was a member of the Amvets, VFW, American Legion, Moose, and a life-member of the Elks. He enjoyed working as a volunteer fireman for the Dickinson Fire Department for many years. Don also enjoyed spending winter months in Bullhead City, AZ, woodworking, fishing, dancing, and traveling. Most of all, he took much pride and enjoyed his career with the Guard. Don is survived by his brother, Gordon Marx, Waterville, WA; three sisters, Marian Christianson, Fargo, Shirley Timm, Moses Lake, WA, and Kathy Antonchuk, Calgary, Canada; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellie; his parents; three brothers, Bill, James, and David; and one sister, Eva Steckler.
