Doris E. (Nelson) McMahon, 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 25, 2017, with her loving family by her side, in Bismarck, ND.Services will be held at 12:00 Noon Thursday, June 29, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck.Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Parkway Funeral Service.Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.Doris was born to Ernest Nelson and Johanna (Nybo) Nelson on July 21, 1926, in Fargo, North Dakota. Doris attended Fargo Central High School and Dakota Business College.  She married Bernie McMahon on August 3, 1947, and they were blessed with 60 happy years together.Doris enjoyed working for the South Dakota Legislature and as the Desk Secretary for the North Dakota Senate. She loved to bake, play bridge and golf and sew and quilt. Doris is survived by her children, Kathy McMahon, Austin, TX; Mary Middleton, Sioux City, IA, Claudia Simon, (Don) of Fargo, ND, Tom, Minnetonka, MN and John, Bismarck, ND, grandchildren Noah Beekley and Taja Beekley, Austin, TX, William Simon (Michelle Halverson), Minneapolis, MN and Meredith Simon, Fargo, ND, and great-grandchildren Addilee Hope, Fargo, ND and Harris William, Minneapolis, MN.She is preceded in death by her husband, Bernie; her son, Billy; son-in-law, Dan Middleton; her parents; her sister, Jean Mikkelsen; and brother George Nelson. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Seeds of Hope, Bismarck, ND or your local Humane Society or animal shelter.
