Dorothy Agnes Rostad, 90, Bismarck, formerly from Minot, entered eternal life on December 3rd, 2018 with family by her side. Dorothy was born to Frank and Mary Agnes Black on September 6, 1928 in Minot. She spent her first 11 years on the family farm in Foxholm, ND. The family moved to Minot in 1939, where she graduated in 1946 from Minot High School. She met the love of her life, Jearold Gordon Rostad, in 1947 at a dance. They were married in 1948 and lived most of their married life in Minot with the exception of a few short years in Augusta, GA, in the early 1950’s. They were blessed with 5 children. After graduation, she began working at Kresge Dime store before taking a position at Dakota Transfer and Storage, where she worked until the birth of their first child. The next 28 years were devoted to being a wife, mother, and business partner of her husband. The opportunity to travel worldwide was afforded them with the success of Jearold's sales ability. After his death in 1975, Dorothy returned to the work force. She spent 15 years at Minot State University, retiring in 1993, as a secretary for the Student Union Director, where she enjoyed interacting with many students over the years and forging life-long friendships with others on staff. She was very proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed a trip to Ireland where she was able to visit the homestead of her ancestors. Attending the Black Family Reunions, held every 4 years since 1977, were also cherished times and those memories were held close to her heart. She was devoted to her family and especially loved being surrounded by her grandchildren, who in turn blessed her with 15 great-grandchildren ranging in age from 22 to brand new. She loved it when babies kept arriving to fill her arms. She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Larry) Benzel, Appleton, Wisconsin, Susan (Michael) Hummel, Bismarck, North Dakota, and Lisa Wagner, Greenwood, Indiana, her son, Daniel Rostad, Rapid City, South Dakota, her sisters, Marie Wiemer, Spokane, Washington, and Eileen (Bernie) Skibicki, Bismarck, North Dakota, her brother-in-law, Emery Nelson, Bozeman, MT and her sister-in-law LaVonne Black, Spokane, WA, her grandchildren, Bret Hummel, Minneapolis, MN, Laura (Dennis) Haapala, Ewen MI, Brandon Hummel, Bismarck, ND, Amanda (Jamie) Friend, Rapid City, SD, Lance (Katie) Benzel, Colorado Springs, CO, Brady (Kim) Hummel, Memphis, TN, Marissa (Daniel) Scheurer, Rapid City, SD, Danielle Rostad, Denver, CO, Tyler Wagner, Greenwod, IN, and Michael Wagner, Greenwood, IN, 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
