Dorothy Wanner, 73, Bismarck, died August 15, 2024 after a brief battle with cancer. Mass of Christian burial will be held 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 20 at Church of Corpus Christi, 1919 N Second St, Bismarck.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck. A rosary/vigil service will begin at 7 p.m.
Burial will be held at Menoken Cemetery, Menoken.
Dorothy was born November 16, 1950 to Adam and Barbara Schmaltz in Tappen. Dorothy was the third child of seven, attended Tappen Public School, and graduated with the Class of‘68. She furthered her education and attended North Dakota State College of Science, graduating with an LPN degree in nursing.
She began her career at Bismarck Hospital where she worked for six years. Dorothy spent 40 years at St. Alexius Hospital in PACU and the surgical floor.
On May 28, 1971, she married Rodney Kuhn. To this union, three children were born: James, Chris and Lonnie. Rodney died June 8, 1995.
Dorothy enjoyed dancing, gardening, baking, home improvement projects, Yahtzee. She loved to visit with her sisters and numerous friends. Dorothy will be remembered as a hard-working, faithful, and no-nonsense woman. She was the first person to be there whenever a helping hand was needed.
On August 14, 1999 Dorothy married Richard Wanner. From their marriage, Dorothy gained two children, and happily blended their families together. Above all else, Dorothy valued her relationship with Christ and her family. Proverbs 31:28 says, “Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.”
Dorothy is survived by husband, Richard Wanner; daughter, Kim (Ken) Stenger, Dent, MN, parents of Richard and Katie; son, Jason (Dani) Wanner, Cedar Falls, IA, parents of Linus, Johanna, and Felix; son, Chris (Theresa) Kuhn, Apple Valley, MN, parents of Rose, Isaac, Joseph, Gianna, Faustina, Monica, and John Paul; siblings, Catherine “Cathy” (Van) Mitzel, Petronia Laine, Phyllis (Jewel) Melhoff, Mary Ann (Dale) Wolf and John (Jodi) Schmaltz and special friend, Mary Richter.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her sons, Lonnie and James and her brother, Elmer.
1 Peter 1:6: In this you rejoice, although now for a little while you may have to suffer through various trials, so that the genuineness of your faith, more precious than gold that is perishable even though tested by fire, may prove to be for praise, glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
