Douglas Bruce Friestad, 62, passed away Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Touchmark in Bismarck, ND.Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Kintyre at 11:00 am with Pastor Susan Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Tell Cemetery near Kintyre.Doug was born December 4, 1954, to Juel and Mabel (Feigum) Friestad in Kintyre, ND, the youngest of 5 children. He attended Napoleon Public Schools and was active in wrestling and football. He graduated in 1973. Following his graduation, Doug took over the family farm near Kintyre, where he continued farming until his retirement in 2015.Doug married Sheila Bohrer from Napoleon on October 16, 1976. They were blessed with three daughters; Jamie, Sara and Lacy.Doug was hard working and kind. He never took on more than he could manage, and he did his work without complaint, even when times were tough. His greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He never missed an event, and always made time for family. In his spare time, Doug enjoyed golfing, watching Westerns, and was active on bowling and pool leagues in Napoleon and Braddock.Doug was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia in the fall of 2014. He was cared for at home by his wife, Sheila, until he moved in to the Napoleon Care Center in July of 2016. He moved to Bismarck in August of 2017 and resided at Touchmark until his death. His kind and gentle soul will be missed by all who knew him.Doug is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sheila; daughters, Jamie (Chris) Sperle, Sara (Caleb) Ketterling, and Lacy (Dusty) Woodrow; 10 grandchildren, Dylan Bitz, Kayden and Kendall Sperle, Sophie, Emma, Eli and Gabby Ketterling, Evan, Owen and Isaac Woodrow; three siblings, Dennis (Helen) Friestad of Fargo, Judy Woods of Bellevue, NE, and Soren (Terry) Friestad of Fargo; as well as many other loving cousins, nieces, nephews and relatives.Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Juel and Mabel; a brother, Ronald (Ronnie) Friestad; and a brother-in-law, Jerry Woods.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kintyre Lutheran Church or the Tell Cemetery in Kintyre.
