Dr. George Robert Dinyer

February 4, 1947 — December 9, 2018

Dr. George Robert Dinyer, formerly of Bismarck, passed away peacefully in Denver on December 9, 2018, after a brief illness. Family members had gathering and were at his side.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, April 13, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with Rev. Paul Becker officiating.

On February 4, 1947, George and Eleanor Dinyer joyfully welcomed their third child and only son into their young family and named him after his dad. Growing up in Mandan, George could be seen riding his Vespa through his neighborhood, often on his way to play tennis. Another pastime, not surprisingly, was working on science projects, and George would later follow the example of his father and enter the medical field.

After graduating from Mandan High School, he attended the University of North Dakota and earned a bachelor’s degree in medicine in 1971. But George did more than study-on a blind date in 1967, he met Mary Lawlor, and even though watching Rio Lobo on Christmas night at the local theater might not have been the perfect date, they were married in 1970, had a son, Garret, and daughter, Laura, and had recently celebrated 48 years of marriage.

George’s bachelor’s degree in medicine was followed by a master’s degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago in 1973. Also, in Chicago, he completed a residency in family medicine in 1976, and then moved to the Mid Dakota Clinic in Bismarck for four years as a family practitioner. Feeling a calling for dermatology, George applied to and was accepted at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, for a three-year residency. He returned to Bismarck to establish Dakota Dermatology, and continued this sole practice of helping patients for 19 wonderful years. His many patients loved him, he loved them, and he often told his patients, “Now perform two kind acts toward another person and if you don’t have a favorite dermatologist, then get one to take care of your skin and get a skin check every year.” Very wise counsel from a man who enjoyed helping his patients. As George looked back on his medical career, he would say, “I wouldn’t change it at all.”

After retiring to Denver, he and Mary traveled frequently, not only to visit family, but also to Europe, South and Central America, and many scenic and historical sites in the United States.

George’s wife Mary survives him at their home in Denver. He is survived by his daughter, Laura Kayande and husband Paraj of Calgary, Alberta, and their sons, Govind and Ashwin. George looked forward to laughter and fun with his grandsons and always cherished the time he spent with them. Son Garrett Dinyer, his wife Bonnie and their two grand pups live in Willets, CA, where Garrett is a chef, and a “very good” one according to George. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Dave Lawlor, of San Diego, CA; his sisters-in-law, Nancy Snider, Denver, Joan Nordstrom and Diane Lawlor, both of Bismarck; as well as many nieces and nephews.

George’s parents and his two sisters, Mary Catherine McBride and Judy Russell Rojas, preceded him in death.

Condolences may be sent to the family at 5901 W. Lehigh Ave., #10, Denver, CO 80235. George would request that you remember Jesus’ words: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You trust God, now trust in me. There are many rooms in my Father’s home, and I am going to prepare a place for you.” (John 14:1-2)
