Duane E. Sorby, 92, Bismarck, died January 16, 2019, at the Baptist Health Care Center. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, January 19, at Edgewood Vista Chapel, 3124 Colorado Lane, Bismarck, with Rev. Lisa Ahlness officiating. Cremation has taken place. Burial with military honors will be at 11:00 am Tuesday, January 22, at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Duane was born September 7, 1926, to Melvin and Gladys (Akers) Sorby at Moorhead, MN. His mother died in 1934. He was raised and educated in Clay County Minnesota. He was drafted late in World War II into the Army of the United States (AUS). After basic training, he enlisted in the Regular Army (RA) and served as an US Army Paratrooper. After service and honorable discharge, he returned home and went to work in the Kragnes Farmers Elevator at Kragnes, MN, thus starting a 49-year career in the grain business. On June 25, 1950, he married Beverly Tate of Hillsboro, ND, formerly of Moorhead, MN. Duane was a member of SCORE (Senior Corp of Retired Executives), Apple Creek Country Club, the Republican Party, a life-member of the American Legion and Elks, and the Central Dakota Humane Society. Duane is survived by Beverly, his wife of 68 years; one nephew; two nieces; two half-sisters; and numerous grand-nephews, grand-nieces, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother; a brother; a sister; a half-brother; and two half-sisters.
