Edgar Schmidt

Edgar Schmidt, 86, Bismarck, died March 19, 2019, surrounded by his family at Sanford Health, Bismarck. Services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, March 25, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 615 E. Turnpike Ave., Bismarck, with Rev. Jonathan Walla officiating.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm Sunday, March 24, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Edgar was born December 5, 1932, in Minot, ND, the son of Walter and Florence Schmidt. He grew up in Kongsberg, ND, on a family farm and graduated from Velva State Agricultural High School in 1951. He then attended North Dakota School of Forestry in Bottineau and graduated with an engineering and associate in science. He continued to further his education by attending NDSU of Agriculture and Applied Science. Edgar went on to work for the ND Highway Department designing bridges. He then worked for the State Water Commission until his retirement.

Edgar met Lorraine Schmidt at a young age in confirmation class in Kongsberg, ND. They were reunited later in life in Bismarck. The couple was married on June 30, 1978, in Max, ND. They adopted their son, Kevin, in 1986. Edgar enjoyed the family farm doing projects while Lorraine would garden. He was passionate about his Minneapolis Moline tractors and took great pride in all he did.

Edgar is survived by his wife, Lorraine Schmidt, his son, Kevin Schmidt (Destiny), and his grandkids, Ryder, and Ivy.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
