Edna Haase Ackerman, 91, Bismarck, passed away on December 2, 2019. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 6, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 106 Osage Ave, Bismarck. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Edna was born on September 13, 1928 on a farm 20 miles south of Hebron, ND, to Adam and Albertina Magstadt. She was raised and educated north of New Leipzig. Edna married Elmer Haase on June 3, 1947 in New Leipzig. Together they ran a restaurant in Elgin and then lived many places working construction including Riverdale during the building of the Garrison Dam. They moved to Bismarck in 1955 where they built their house and raised three children.
Edna served banquets at the Patterson and Grand Pacific Hotels. She worked many different jobs over the years including being an Avon Lady, interior house painting, and cleaning.
She and Elmer were members of the Eagles, Elks, and Moose Lodge where they loved to go dancing on the weekends. Edna loved music and could play the guitar and piano by ear.
Edna married John Ackerman on March 8, 1985. They spent summers in Bismarck gardening and camping. They belonged to three camping groups: Northern Lights, FMCA and Good Sam. They were snowbirds to Phoenix, AZ, for 25 years where she crocheted many afghans for family and friends. She was a wonderful cook and baker, especially kuchen.
She is survived by her husband, John; daughters, Deborah (Jay) Leno, Scottsdale, AZ; DeEttra (Ferd) Madche, Hazen, ND; daughter-in-law, Paula Haase, Bismarck, ND; six grandchildren, Kari Leno, Farrah (Jeff) Wiberg, Laura (Jeff) Murray, Amanda (Jay) Linton, Eve Madche, and Dan (Tammy) Madche; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Esther (Elmer) Lemke, and special nephew, Duane Lemke, Bentley, ND.
Edna was preceded in death by her first husband, Elmer Haase; her son, Dwight; two grandsons, Jerome Danny Leno, Jr. and Jonathan Henry Harsche; her parents, and niece, Denise Lemke.
