Edward was born November 16, 1931 in Lefor, ND, the son of John and Elizabeth (Link) Pechtl. He was raised east of Lefor, ND, and was educated at a country school near Lefor and also Assumption Abby High School in Richardton. Edward entered the U.S. Army on January 24, 1952, was stationed in Germany and worked as a section chief in Teletype Communications during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on January 18, 1954.
Edward married Caroline Barth on January 18, 1955, in Richardton, ND. The couple lived in Seattle, WA, where Edward worked for Boeing until returning home to Lefor where they farmed and ranched for many years. They had four children, Kathy, Cindy, Wayne and Jeanne. Following retirement from farming and ranching, Edward worked for Roughrider Manure Hauling Service and Beaver Creek Ranch. In 2011 the couple moved to Bismarck. Caroline passed away October 23, 2015. Edward moved to Edgewood Memory Care in 2018.
Edward was a farmer at heart, always busy fixing and repairing things. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus St. Elizabeth’s Council 5477 of Lefor, helped manage the KC Club, Lefor, for several years; and a member of the American Legion Post #0180, Richardton. Edward was active in his community and enjoyed being involved on the school and church boards. You would often find him playing a hand of pinochle with friends.
