Eilene Sabot

Eilene P. Sabot, 79, of Bismarck, passed away, October 25, 2020, at Sandford Medical Center. A celebration of life will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at Church of St. Anne, 1321 Braman Ave, Bismarck.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29 at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck. For those attending, the family asks that you wear a mask.  A live stream of the service will be available on the funeral home’s website.

Eilene was born Nov. 23, 1940 to Joseph and Philomena (Senger) Weigel.  After graduating from High School in Zeeland, she worked at St. Alexius food service.  She met her husband of 51 years, Donald Sabot, and they were married Nov. 4, 1963 at St. John’s Church in Zeeland.  After their marriage, Eilene and Don moved to the farm where they raised their seven children.  She remained there until the end.  Eilene was a hardworking farm wife.

She was very active in the church, she was part of Marthas and Marys, taught CCD, was in charge of the bake sale the last few years and worked many funerals.  She loved the ladies she worked with at the church.  She would always say, “We had such a great time today.” The church was her refuge after Don passed away five years ago.

Eilene loved the farm.  She loved the peacefulness of seeing the cows outside her window, the cats waiting for her on the porch and sometimes even a racoon.  The time on the farm was very busy – raising seven kids, gardening, canning, raising chickens, milking cows, selling eggs and selling cream in the big cream cans. 

She was a wonderful baker and cook.  She made many wedding, anniversary, and birthday cakes not only for her grandchildren but for all.  She made her own wedding cake when she and Don were married.  She started her business “Eilene’s Kitchen” after the kids were gone and continued to make cakes, kuchen and anything people asked for.  Whenever we had gatherings, whether with family or friends there was always a request for her homemade buns.  We will all remember “Sunday soup,” as that was a staple growing up and continued throughout our lives.

Eilene’s pride and joy was her family.  She had a special relationship with each of us.  She loved Thanksgiving because that was the holiday where people came together to enjoy each other.  She loved having her family all together and hearing the stories and laughter.  She was the rock and the glue.  Her gentle nature and quietness spoke volumes to everyone around her.  She had enough love for everyone to include all of our friends.  All were welcome and treated like family.

Mom’s favorite pastime was going to the casino.  She loved meeting new people and visiting with them.  If you traveled with her to go to the casino, she always had a plan of how many casino’s she could hit until we got to our destination and a great explanation of why we had to stop at each one.  She loved listening to the polka’s and waltz’s on Sunday mornings on KBMR.  She loved to travel with family, she made many trips to Sioux Falls, Minneapolis, Deadwood, New York, Florida, Dallas and many other places.

There are no words to say how deeply missed Eilene will be.  She leaves behind three daughters, Annette Sabot, Bismarck, Denise (Dean) Roller, Bismarck, and Lisa (Trent) Peterson, Sioux Falls, S.D.;  four sons, Joe (Colette) Sabot, Leon (Lynn) Sabot, Roland (Linda) Sabot, and Dean (Jessica) Sabot, all of Bismarck;  grandchildren, Wyatt (Jessica) Sabot, Morgan (John) Yoder,  Layn (Parker) Wilson, Luke Sabot,  Cole and Lauryn Peterson, Shane Curfman, Brenna (Damian) Mosbrucker and Hunter and Walker Sabot, Zach, Matt, Nick and Alex Roller;  four great-grandchildren, Neveah Mees, Auriel Curfman, Jordyn and Gavyn Yoder; three brothers and four sisters.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and three sisters.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Marthas and Marys at St. Anne’s Church.
