Elaine Wittmaier, 87, Bismarck, died April 1, 2018, at CHI St. Alexius Health, Bismarck. Services will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, April 5, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 106 Osage Ave., Bismarck, with Rev. Craig Schweitzer officiating. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Wednesday, April 4, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm. Elaine C. was born July 3, 1930, in Beulah, ND, to Clyde L. and Marie (Opdahl) Stickney. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Beulah. She was raised and attended school in Beulah and graduated from Beulah High School in 1948. She attended Minot State Teachers College where she received her standard teaching certificate, then taught at Hazen Grade School from 1950-1951. Elaine was married to Alvin J. Wittmaier “Sparky” on June 9, 1951, in San Francisco, CA. He was serving in the U.S. Army at the time and the couple lived in San Francisco until January 1953. They moved to Shelby, MT, where Alvin was employed as a gas engineer for Montana Power Company, in January 1955, they returned to Beulah and moved in 1960 to Bismarck, where they continued to live and raise their family. Elaine was a charter member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where she had remained active. She enjoyed family, home, friends, and their lake home in norther Minnesota. Many times your day would be brightened by a note received from Elaine. Elaine was a humble servant of Our Lord. Elaine is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, Alvin; one daughter and two sons-in-law, Patricia (James) Ertresvaag, and Steve Sieler; one son, James; seven grandchildren, Marie Ertresvaag, Michael (Amy) Ertresvaag, David and Mark Wittmaier, Timothy Sieler, Emily (Kyle) Zahn, and Jason Sieler; 12 great-grandchildren, Zachary, Benjamin, Samuel and Eve Jewell, Hailey Ennis, Christian Imsdahl, Casey and Jackson Ertresvaag, Wednesday Sieler, Ethnie, Kinzie, and Keelie Zahn; in addition to many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Joan Sieler; her parents; Alvin’s parents, Carl and Leah Wittmaier; two infant grandsons, Daniel and Matthew Sieler; two sisters, Cleo Nordquist and Carol Schmidt; one brother, Duane Stickney; and two brothers-in-law, Donald Nordquist and Lawrence Schmidt. Memorials may be given to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
