Elda was born in Rosenthal Township, McIntosh County, ND at home by a midwife on August 6, 1937, to Fred & Louise Knoblich. She spent her early childhood years working on the farm. She received her early education at a rural school, completing eighth grade. In August of 1950, Elda was baptized and became a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church of Lehr. Elda and LeRoy A. Fey were united in marriage on October 13, 1957, at the Berlin Baptist Church. This union brought forth three children.
Her religious affiliation was with Ashley Baptist Church, while her professional pursuits included employment at Ashley Bakery and childcare services for local families. In 1994, she relocated to Bismarck, taking on a housekeeping role at the Terrace and Baptist Home, further expanding her childcare services to her social circle. In 2012, she made her home at Edgewood Village where she remained until her eventual passing.
Elda was a master of German cuisine, crafting delicious fleischkuechle and kuchen. She had a passion for flowers, gardening, canning, and her love for purple was evident. She found solace in reading her Bible and listening to gospel music. In her spare time, she also enjoyed spending time on the farm tending to baby calves. She had a few favorite sayings, including ’It will heal by the time you get married’ and ’Someday you will get there too.' She was fluent in German and affectionately referred to her grandchildren as 'sugar plums.'
She is survived by her three children, Lyle Fey (Carol), Ashley, ND; Clyde Fey (Gina Ketterling), Ashley, ND; LaRae Utter (Kip), Bismarck, ND; five grandchildren; Tara Harding (Chance), Amber Fast (Bryce), Kendall Fey; Kylee Utter and McKenna Utter, and four great-grandchildren; Brylee, Hayden, Briggs, and Lynden.
Elda was preceded in death by her parents, sister LaVerna Wolf, and brother Ivan Knoblich.
