Elijah Henry James Skeen, four-month-old son of Sarah (Wolfer) and DJ Skeen, died unexpectedly on Aug. 19, 2020 while on vacation with his family in Minnesota. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 106 Osage Ave, Bismarck.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck.
Elijah was born on April 5, 2020 and was given four names, just like his father and the nickname “Bubba” from his family. From the beginning, Elijah was the happiest baby and always smiled back at those who smiled at him. Elijah was such a joy and lit up any room he was in. He slept through the night from the day he came home from the hospital. He was a very active baby and was always moving around and looking at the flashing lights on the TV. Elijah began rolling around before he was four months old.
He loved the outdoors and enjoyed going to the disc park with his dad. He even had his own little “disc” – which was just a teething ring. Elijah was an easy baby and only cried when he was hungry. But watch out if he was hungry – you couldn’t miss the scream. In addition to listening to music, Elijah enjoyed watching cartoons and taking showers with dad.
Elijah’s seven-year-old brother, Troy, wore the big brother badge proudly. He couldn’t wait to show his baby brother off to the class when he came home from the hospital. Together, the two laid by each other while Elijah would watch Troy play video games.
He is survived by his parents, Sarah and DJ; brother, Troy; sisters, Jala and Jacy Skeen, and Jayden Lamar; paternal grandparents, Dennis Skeen, Huntsville, Ala., and Elissa Hamon, Cowan, Tenn.; maternal grandparents, Lynn Rings, Lyle Wolfer and Russell Rings, all of Bismarck; paternal uncles, Nathan Skeen and Kaleb Wermuth; maternal uncles, Mike (Jaylenn) Wolfer, Scott Rings, Jon (Taylor) Rings and Jason (Caitlyn Sammons) Rings; cousins, T.J. Gunsch, Brennan Wolfer, Kaden Rings and Makena Helbling.
Elijah was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents, John and Betty Lovgren, Albert and Marlene Wolfer, and Carla and Leonard Kleppen; and paternal great-grandparents, Ezra and Betty Lou Hamon, and James and Mildred Skeen.
