They married in1947 and soon moved to Waterloo, Iowa where Elizabeth raised her three children. She worked as a medical technologist for Schoitz Hospital in Waterloo until her second marriage to Dwain Fick in 1969. Elizabeth and Dwain soon moved to Bismarck, North Dakota where they owned and operated Dakota Communications for over thirty years.
Elizabeth had a deep love of music, and was a church organist at Zion Lutheran Church since coming to town. She was also a member of Bismarck Mandan symphony for over 25 years, where she played the cello. Elizabeth was a devoted member of Zion, and was continually involved with Bible studies and women’s ministries. She loved to visit her two boys and five grandchildren, and especially enjoyed the family tradition of “Pie Day” after Thanksgiving and playing competitive games like Pictionary and Outburst. Elizabeth was a strong and independent woman her entire life, including the past 18 months while living at Edgewood Vista in Bismarck.
Elizabeth is survived by her two sons Bruce and Wayne Johnson and her stepchildren Eileen Everly from Des Moines, Iowa and David Fick from Spokane, Washington. Bruce lives in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and has three daughters Elizabeth, Marilynn, and Michelle. Wayne and his wife Karen live near Iowa City, Iowa, and have two children Ross and Amanda. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband Dwain and her daughter Linda.
The family wishes to extend their deepest thanks to all of Elizabeth’s friends in Bismarck who supported her and helped her maintain her independence over the last few years (she was even driving at age 92!).
