Emil Berard

Emil Berard, 71, formerly of Dickinson, ND died June 4, 2019 in Harrisburg, SD.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am CST Friday, June 28 at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, 519 Raymond St., Bismarck, ND.

Final Committal will be held at 1:00 pm Friday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Emil's life began in 1947 in the small town of Bathgate, ND where he learned the hard life of farming and the subtle arts of hunting and fishing . Upon graduation he traveled east where he met and married the love of his life, Donna Jean Hendershott; joined the army, graduated from UND, and started a career with the ND Game and Fish Department. A few years later he and his wife settled a patch of land out in the country where they built a family and lived a wonderful life for over a decade. In 1992 a career move brought Emil and Donna to Dickinson, ND where they saw their children graduate and their nest slowly empty. His later years were filled with fishing, traveling, friends, family and he enjoyed volunteering with his wife Donna. He was a unique, selfless, productive individual who bettered the lives of all those who had the honor to meet him, and he will be deeply missed by countless among us.

Emil is survived by his wife, Donna Berard; his brother, Larry Berard; sisters, Charlotte Chounard, Marlene Cannon, Arlene Fiedler, Stephanie Giese, Heather, Jacob, his son, Scott; his granddaughter, Anna Yost; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lorraine Bertrand; his father, Ernest Berard; his mother-in-law, Ellen Douds; his father-in-law, Harold Hendershott; his niece, Peggy Boos; his nephew, Kade Davis; in addition to countless ancestors.
