Erin (O’Brien) Wooten, 62, of rural Bismarck, died on November 24, 2019. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, November 29, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, November 29, at the ND Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Erin was born in Rapid City, South Dakota on August 29, 1957. Upon graduating from Bismarck High School, she entered the US Marine Corps. She served the majority of her four years of service in Camp Lejeune, NC with the military police. She married Fred Wooten on April 7, 1978 in Bismarck. After their service, Fred and Erin decided to make their home in Bismarck. Erin worked for the Bismarck police department as an officer, canine handler, and accident investigator for approximately eight years. She then attended the Medcenter One College of Nursing earning a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She worked as an RN at Medcenter One and as a travelling nurse until attending Mount Marty College in Yankton, SD. Erin received a master’s degree from Mount Marty College Anesthesia Program in 1996. She worked as a traveling nurse anesthetist until she retired due to health reasons.
Erin loved animals, especially her horses and dogs. She enjoyed horseback riding, traveling to tropical destinations for scuba diving, and marksmanship shooting.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Fred; mother, Virginia O’Brien, Bismarck; brother Michael (Pat) and Barb of Apache Junction, AZ; sisters, Suzanne (Jeff) Gross, Bismarck, and Yolanda (Yo) and Todd Wahl, Bismarck; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Horne, Limestone, TN; sisters-in-law, Sharon (Jim) Amyx, Mohawk, TN; Sheila (Dave) Bailey, Greeneville, TN; and Lisa (Erick) Barrett, Cookeville, TN; and many nieces, nephews, and their families.
Erin was preceded in death by her father, Nick O’Brien; and father-in-law, Lloyd Wooten.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Erin can be made to the local Crisis Care Chaplaincy. The Chaplaincy works closely with area law enforcement agencies to assist families when tragedies occur. Contact information: [email protected]
