Ernest Reis

With Jesus by his side, Ernest (Ernie) R. Reis went to his heavenly home on October 4, 2023.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, October 11, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 806 E Broadway Ave, Bismarck.

Visitation will be held 5:00-6:00 PM, Tuesday, October 10, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck. A vigil service will begin at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, October 11, at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

His life began in Strasburg, North Dakota March 28, 1931, as the son of John and Regina (Schumacher) Reis. Being one of seven children to grow up on the farm, he learned the meaning and reward of hard work. 

In September of 1953, Ernie left home to serve his country as an army mechanic in the Korean Conflict. He returned in June of 1955 and on September 23, 1957, he married Luvina Kiefer at St. Aloysius Church. God blessed them with five children.          

The family would eventually move to Bismarck, North Dakota where Ernie became a city mechanic for 28 years before retiring. Throughout his life he could be found in his garage working on vehicles, lawnmowers, and snowblowers. His family loved him dearly for the kind, gentle man that he was, the twinkle in his eyes, the warm smile on his face, and the open arms waiting to embrace them in a hug.

Ernie is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Luvina; children David (Nancy) Reis, Frank (Tammy) Reis, Daniel (Lori) Reis, Cynthia (Truman) Lund, and Sandra (Jamie) Gimbel; 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and his sister Helen (Irvin) Senger.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Ed, Herman, John, Leo, and Gerald Reis.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Veterans Cemetery or a charity of your choice.
