Bismarck

ETHAN CARL HOGER, 28, Judson, ND, passed away on December 10, 2023, unexpectedly at Sanford hospital.

His funeral will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at St. Pius Catholic Church, 202 3rd St North, New Salem, ND. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, December 15, 2023, with a vigil service at 7:00 pm at St. Pius Catholic Chuch.

He was born in Bismarck on September 29, 1995, to Dale Hoger and Hazel Hoger.

He graduated from New Salem High School in 2014. Following graduation, he attended Central Lake College, graduating in 2015. Ethan excelled in basketball and football in high school and enjoyed swimming (only if it was in a pool and he could see the bottom). His senior year he was crowned Homecoming King, which his Grandma Sheila loved to tell people.

Ethan married Taryn Small on September 19, 2020. Ethan and Taryn were inseparable from then on. They had two beautiful children, Trace Dennis born August 31, 2021, and Parker Loraine born on August 3, 2023, whom he loved dearly. At the end of the day, he loved reading books with Trace and helping put his babies to bed.

He began his welding career at Steffes Manufacturing in Dickinson, ND, and went on to work at Community Action in Bismarck, ND, and Peterson Farms in New Salem. He was currently employed at Westmoreland Beulah Mining LLC in Beulah, ND. He thoroughly enjoyed his work.

Ethan’s first passion was cattle. He began his ranching career in 2009 when he purchased his first cows at the age of 13. He continued to grow his herd and shared his passion with his son Trace whose first word was cow. This year he was most proud of his rye grass crop. Ethan loved ranger rides with his family. Trace loved to check cows with Dad, Mom and the dogs Tank and Millie. He enjoyed calving and he could pick a replacement heifer out of a pen of calves. Much of his conversations included cows, farming, and his family.

Deadwood was Ethan's favorite place away from home. He enjoyed spending time with friends and pheasant hunting with the boys. In the summertime he enjoyed being on a boat with friends enjoying good company in the sun.

Ethan was quiet man unless he knew you, made friends easily, and was a people pleaser. He was one of a kind and a true gentleman. He will be remembered for his deep belly laugh which made everyone happy when they heard it.

He is survived by his wife Taryn Hoger; his son, Trace Dennis; daughter, Parker Loraine; his parents, Dale Hoger and Hazel Hoger; his brother, Wyatt and his fiancé Morgan Vitek; his grandparents, Donna Hoger, Marlen & Sheila Christian; aunts & uncles Al & Tania Christian and Marla and Travis Hagemeister; honorary Aunt Betty Gerving & Glen Walden; his father and mother-in-law Walter & Julie Small; brother and sister-in-law Shawn and Hannah Small; and niece, Felicity Small.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dennis Hoger; his uncle, Jay Dee Schultz; great-grand parents Louise & August Christian and honorary grandparents, Glen & Ester Dettmann.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to a fund set up for his children’s college education at Dakota Community Bank.
