To the glory of God and in memory of Eugene C. Edstrom, Bismarck, a celebration of life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 5, 2018, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, ND. Eugene (Gene) C. Edstrom, 86, was born on December 6, 1931, in Fargo, ND to Carl and Isabel (Eidenschink) Edstrom. He grew up in Fargo, ND, attending school there, and spent his summers in Detroit Lakes, MN. After graduating high school, Gene enlisted in the United States Air Force in April of 1951. He was proud of his service to his country and spoke fondly of his time spent in the Air Force. Following his discharge, Gene began his career with General Motors Acceptance Corporation. It was a rewarding career that lasted almost 40 years until his retirement. Gene married Carol Haugen in Fargo, ND on May 10, 1958. Gene’s career relocated them to Dickinson, ND where they resided for 30 years raising their family. After Gene’s retirement, they moved to Bismarck, ND. Gene and Carol spent nearly 60 happy years together. Gene died March 31, 2018 at his home. Gene is survived by his wife, Carol, and his four children, Shawn Deisz (Mike), Eric Edstrom (Paula Costa), Elizabeth Muraki (Alan) and Andrea Edstrom Frank (Paul). Gene was blessed with grand children and great-grandchildren; Steven and Jill Deisz and their son Benjamin, Katie (Deisz) and Brenton Peltz, Alex and Yasely Edstrom, Christian Edstrom, Jonathan, Sarah, and Isabel Muraki, Matthew Kramer, Austen and Sarah Frank, Amanda (Frank) and Mark Starbuck, and Adam Frank. Gene is also survived by his sister, Diane Noble, his sister-in-law, Gaye Edstrom, and many nieces and nephews. Gene’s family was everything to him and any time spent with his family was cherished. He was looking forward to the births of his two great-granddaughters this summer. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Carl and Alice Haugen, and his brother, LeRoy Edstrom. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Gene’s favorite charities: St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Central Dakota Humane Society.
