Evan was born in Bismarck on April 5, 2006, weighing 7 pounds, 8 ounces at 5:55 pm, the son of Eric and Jennifer (Madsen) Grove and brother to Ethan. At an early age, Evan was like a sponge, taking in all his surroundings and absorbing everything, already paving his path through life in his own ways. He attended Lighthouse Learning Center, Robert Miller Elementary, Sunrise Elementary, Simle Middle School and was currently a freshman at Legacy High School.
From a young age, Evan loved the outdoors. He learned to hunt, fish, bow hunt, snowmobile and dirt bike, which he road to work at Capital City Sporting Clays. It was finally time for him and Ethan to go on their first fishing trip to Canada with their dad last year and he could not wait to go again, but the pandemic didn’t allow it this year. He also went on snowmobile trips with his dad and friends. He enjoyed bringing friends along on family trips to our cabin in Minnesota where (depending on the time of year) they would fish, swim, snowmobile, play board games, sit around the campfire and drive off-road in the Ranger. Evan was very well rounded, he knew how to bake cookies, search out and cook new recipes, change a tire and so much more! He always wanted to learn and was anxious to try something new. He loved spending time in our shop learning about vehicles, fashioning knives out of metal, making things out of wood and welding (according to him he was the best welder in his class). He had a soft spot for dogs and was a great dog trainer, training their newest dog Colt, who went on his first hunt with Evan last week.
Evan was a member of Boy Scouts for several years. Throughout junior high, Evan participated in baseball, football and trap shooting. He loved playing football but gave it up when entering high school to focus on trap and skeet shooting. For the last several years, Evan was a member of the Missouri River Clay Target League family, shooting for Legacy High School. He enjoyed not only participating in the sport, but also being on the same team as his brother, who he looked up to.
Evan was baptized at Good Shepherd Church and was to be confirmed on Sunday, October 25, choosing the verse “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13, which was perfect for Evans determined ways and curious personality.
He had a diverse group of friends who he enjoyed spending time with. Some of the things we will all miss about Evan are his big heart, his quick wit and always having a comeback - he could dish it out as good as he got it. As well as the time he and Ethan spent talking, watching videos, hunting, discussing politics or working on the latest project.
Those most honored to share in Evan’s life are his parents, Eric and Jennifer Grove; brother, Ethan; maternal grandmother, Jan Madsen, Minot; maternal grandfather, Steve Madsen, Minot; paternal grandmother, Alice Grove, Bismarck; uncles, Kelly (Noel) Madsen, Minot, Justin (Candi) Grove, Strasburg, Matthew Grove, Fargo and Spencer (Amanda St. Clair) Grove, Portland, OR; cousins, SummerLynn, Marissa, Gage and Corbin Grove and Bryce Hall.
