Evelyn “Evie” Engel, 73, Bismarck, was called Home to be with the Lord her Savior on August 9, 2018, at a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, August 14, at Bismarck Baptist Church, 2211 LaForest Ave., Bismarck, with Rev. Bryan Hochhalter officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Monday, August 13, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Evelyn was born July 19, 1945, in Hazen, ND, the daughter of Gustave and Irene (Beick) Unrath. In her early years, her family moved often so she attended schools in several locations including, Zap, ND, Chester, MT, Salina Beach, CA, back to Zap, then to New Leipzig, Golden Valley, ND, to Lodi, CA, and eventually back to Golden Valley, ND, where she graduated. Following graduation, Evelyn moved to Bismarck, where she stayed throughout the remainder of her life. Evelyn married LeRoy Engel on June 14, 1964, and together they raised four children, three sons and one daughter. Evelyn worked at the bus depot in Bismarck during her high school years. Following graduation, she went to work at the Holiday Inn as a waitress and remained there for 25 years. She then worked as a CNA at Missouri Slope Care Center for 25 years. She also worked part-time in gaming for 30 years. Evelyn was involved with Cub Scouts the entire time her boys were in it. She enjoyed traveling and going on several cruises. Her highlights included a trip to Alaska where she took a helicopter ride and rode on a dog sled on a glacier, and also going in a submarine in Aruba. But more than all of that was her dedication to her family, they were the greatest joy/gift of her life. She especially loved being a grandma. Evelyn is survived by her husband, LeRoy Engel, Bismarck; her mother, Irene Unrath, Bismarck; her children, Troy (Ann) Engel, Hutchinson, MN, Todd (Molly) Engel, Bismarck, Scott (Robin) Engel, Mandan, and Holly (Todd) Gillispie, Bismarck; her grandchildren, Alyssa, Dylan, Macy, Maddy, Bryce, Logan and Parker; her brother, Eldon (Carla) Unrath; her mother-in-law, Ruth Engel, Bismarck; her sisters-in-law, Ruby Unrath, Norleen (Delaino) Helm, and Colleen Engel; her brother-in-law, Dennis (Paulette) Engel; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Gustave Unrath; brother, Gene Unrath; father-in-law, Herbert Engel; and brother-in-law, Dale “Turby” Engel.
