Evelyn A. Kalainov

July 20, 1938 — May 18, 2019

Evelyn A. Kalainov, 80, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. From her birth on July 20, 1938, to her death, she nourished people around her with love, faith, and laughter.

Services will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, May 23, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with Rev. Jacob DeBoer officiating. Burial is at 3:00 pm Thursday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Wednesday, May 22, at Parkway Funeral Service, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm.

Evelyn was born in Dawson, ND, the daughter of George and Alma (Gunsch) Kemmet and was the second of five children. After graduating from high school, she attended Valley City College. In 1959, she married the love of her life, George Kalainov, Jr. They began farming northeast of Steele, ND, where they raised their three daughters. In addition to being a partner on the farm, Evelyn was actively involved in her daughters’ lives. She worked for Kidder County Social Services and enjoyed bowling, pinochle, gardening, canning, and playing bridge. Her faith was strong, and she was actively involved with the Trinity Lutheran Church.

In 2004, the couple retired from farming and bought a new home east of Bismarck. While living in Bismarck, Evelyn and George enjoyed retirement by spending time with their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends. One of the many things Evelyn enjoyed was her trips to Arizona, where she visited her family and soaked up the sun.

In August of 2018, George and Evelyn moved into Prairie Pointe Assisted Living, where she resided until her passing.

She is loved and will be greatly missed by her husband of 60 years, George; her daughters and sons-in-law, Shelly and Doug Buehler, Jodi and Donnie Biegler, and Jamie and Ron Bernhardt; her grandchildren: Jameson Buehler and his special friend, Erin Porter; Melissa and Aaron Rohrich and their children, Madelyn, Brody, Peyton, Paige, and Brynn; Amber and Rick Rohrich and their children, Kaden, Kylee, and Kolden; Amanda and Ben Oster and their daughter, Evelyn; Dylan Bernhardt and his special friend, Anh Nguyen; and Jasmine Bernhardt and her fiancé, Nicholas Pelletier; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Willard and Joann Kemmet and Gary and Lynn Kemmet; sisters and brothers-in-law, Debbie and Dick Sperle and Jackie and Ken Borchers; sisters-in-law, Doris Heffelfinger, Lori Kalainov, and Coletta Kalainov; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She will be welcomed into heaven by her parents and friends who have gone before her.

Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church in Steele, ND.
