Evonne graduated from New England High School. She moved to Seattle, Washington for a year, where her sister Lorraine lived, to attend Pacific Lutheran University. Upon her return to North Dakota, she enrolled in Dickinson Teacher’s College where she graduated with a teaching degree. Evonne married Morris Zahn on June 24, 1951, celebrating 66 years of Love this past June. They have 3 daughters, Joan, Lynda and Peggy. The couple lived near Tee Pee Buttes and 4 years later moved to their farm south of Bucyrus and began farming. Evonne taught at a country school in Lightning Creek Township and later taught 2nd and 3rd grades in Reeder for 6-years. She was always busy with helping Morris on the farm, raising her family, gardening, and church. The couple retired and moved to Hettinger in 1995. Once in town and no longer dealing with dirt roads, Evonne loved spending time with family, volunteering at the Clothes Closet, quilting at the Hettinger Lutheran Church, and fixing hair at the Hettinger Nursing Home. She loved keeping busy at home working in the yard, baking, and crocheting. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life. In September 2015 Evonne and Morris moved into Edgewood Vista Village in Bismarck. They enjoyed living in Bismarck where Peggy lives. There they met new friends and were involved in various groups and activities. Of course, Evonne continued keeping her hands busy baking and crocheting. Her hand towels are one of her children and grandchildren’s favorite things she made which will always remind them of “grandma”. Evonne touched the hearts of so many and is survived by: her husband, Morris Zahn; her daughters, Joan Helma (Dean), Lynda Doe (Tom), and Peggy Christman (Dave Poppe); her grandchildren, Sam Helma, Jillian Soreide (Jake), Jason Doe (Sacha), Janelle Groll (Tom), Holly Doe (Duran Horning), Lacey Kostelecky (Tyler), Brooke Sanford (Garrett), Cory Christman; her great-grandchildren, Ashlynn and Kal Soreide, Dax & Aria Doe, Kylan and Landon Groll, Jaida and Gage Doe, Kendyl and Shaylee Kostelecky and Kylie and Bennett Sanford; three brothers, Harold Lutz, Donald Lutz (Darlene), and Bob Lutz (Trixie); along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Collin Christman; her sister, Lorraine Frietag; and her parents, Edward and Nora Lutz.
