Florence Mitchel, 98, of Bismarck, North Dakota, went to her Heavenly home on June 1, 2019.
The funeral service will be held at 11:30 am, Monday, June 10, at McCabe United Methodist Church, 1030 North 6th Street, Bismarck, with Rev. Mark Ehrmantraut officiating.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm Sunday, June 9, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck.
Burial is at 2:00 pm Monday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
She was born in Mott, North Dakota, on May 16, 1921, to Leonard and Alice (Iverson) Halbett, where she spent her childhood on the family farm. She graduated from Mott High School, and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from NDSU. Later she earned a Reading Specialist Certification. Florence married the love of her life, Charles Mitchel, June 4, 1944 in the Mott Methodist Church. Their life was filled with joyous times spent with family, friends and neighbors, as well as a many exciting travels.
Florence was well-known in her community by fellow teachers, parents and students, as a beloved and dedicated teacher. Her passion and joy was inspiring young minds, having taught 32 years in the Bismarck Public Schools. She was a gracious hostess, superb cook and baker, excellent seamstress, and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. Always the life of the party, her zest for life, contagious laugh, snappy wit, fun pranks, fabulous storytelling, and spirited independence were the trademarks of her dynamic personality! Her positivity about life and finding the joy in everyday living were the remarkable gifts that made unforgettable memories for her family.
Her beloved husband, Chuck, proceeded her in death exactly two years earlier, on June 1, 2017 and they had celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary prior to his passing. She missed him so dearly that she was never the same after he passed. They’ll now have a joyous reunion to finish out their eternal love story.
Florence's legacy of love, devotion, and service will live on in the lives of her daughters Sandra (Jack) and Rynell; five grandchildren: Deborah (David), Tamara (Nathan), Gregg (Holly), Eric and Scott (deceased); and nine great-grandchildren: Spencer, Brayden, Kaitlin, Bryson, Tyler, Kelsie, Brigg, Jack and Nick.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be given to McCabe United Methodist Church for improvements being made to their children’s education wing.
