Florence Stenehjem

October 15, 1922 — July 25, 2023

Florence Elizabeth Stenehjem, 100, died peacefully on July 25th, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.

Florence (Wohl) Stenehjem was born on October 15, 1922, in Anamoose, ND. She was the daughter of Adam and Paulina Wohl. Florence attended and graduated from Anamoose Public School in 1940. Shortly after graduation, she was employed at a grocery store and also taught at a rural school near Anamoose.

On March 9, 1947, she was united in marriage to Ove Stenehjem at St. Martin Lutheran Church. They lived in Anamoose, where they farmed and raised their four children. Florence was an active member of St. Martin Lutheran Church, a member of the Veterans Women’s Auxiliary and the Federated Women’s Study Club.

Ove passed away in 1990 and Florence continued to live in Anamoose until 2004, when she moved to Minot. While living there, she was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, where she participated in Bible Study and quilting groups. In 2014, Florence moved to Bismarck where she became a resident at Edgewood Assisted Living and a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She enjoyed Bible study and making new friends at Edgewood. Florence enjoyed baking, playing cards, bingo, sewing and quilting. Her family and friends always enjoyed being treated to fresh baked goods and a cup of coffee when they visited. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom she cherished.

Her surviving family includes: Renee (Jim) Lies of Grand Forks, Dean (Sue) Stenehjem of Ridgefield, WA, Cheryl (Scott) Olson of Bismarck and Keith (Loree) Stenehjem of Fargo; grandchildren Brad (Camie) Lies, Kristin (Dan) King, Karrin (Dan) Christians, Eric Stenehjem, Brian (Emily Froula) Stenehjem, Amy Olson, Kari Olson, Melissa (Jonathan) Buchhop, Matthew (Julia) Stenehjem and eight great-grandchildren.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and nine siblings.

There are no longer siblings or many cousins or close friends to celebrate Florence’s life since she outlived so many; however, she will be deeply missed by the generations that follow her.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, August 26 at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck.
