Florine Winter

Florine Elaine (Odegaard) Winter, 87, of Bismarck, a retired teacher and homemaker, died on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Missouri Slope Hillview Skilled Nursing.

Memorial service will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church, Bismarck, ND, on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Private family burial will take place at Bowdon Lutheran Cemetery on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 2:00 p.m.  Cremation has taken place under the direction of Eastgate Funeral Service.  

Florine was born August 27, 1936, on the Odegaard family farm near Bowdon, ND, to Roy and Florence (Pellett) Odegaard.  She attended elementary school in Fessenden and Bowdon and graduated from Bowdon High School in 1954.  She played basketball in high school and was on the starting team that placed 2^nd in the ND State Championship.  She attended Valley City Teachers College and taught at a rural school near Harvey, ND; McLaughlin, SD; Denton, MT; and Coffee Creek, MT.  

She married Ortho Winter in 1958 in Bowdon, ND at Bowdon Lutheran Church.  They farmed near Denton, MT, until 1986 when they retired to Great Falls, MT.  

She belonged to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Denton, MT, and to Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Falls, MT.

She enjoyed her grandchildren, playing bridge, and reading.  

Florine will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  Her absence will be felt, but her memory will live on.

Florine is survived by her children:  Debra (Russell) Gysberg of Bismarck, ND; Darla Burge of Meridian, ID; and Douglas (Crystal) Winter of Denton, MT; six grandchildren: Gregory (Jessie) Gysberg, Paul Gysberg, Davis (Lynsey) Burge, Dane (Sarah) Burge, Jeff (Johnica) Winter, Cassandra (Tony) Solberg; and 5 great-grandsons:  Mason Gysberg, Josiah Gysberg, Jordan Gysberg, Noah Gysberg, and Oliver Burge.   

Florine was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Florence Odegaard; husband of 53 years, Ortho Winter; brother, LeRoy Odegaard; sister, Kay Madsen; son-in-law, David Burge; and nephew, Lee Odegaard.
