Frances Schwartzbauer, 93, Bismarck, ND was called home to heaven on May 3, 2019.
Services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, May 11, at Faith Lutheran Church, 1402 East Avenue C., Bismarck, with Rev. Jon Splichal Larson officiating.
Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
She was born in Wishek, ND on February 17, 1926, the daughter of Gustav and Barbara (Vossler) Just. Frances was raised the fourth of nine children on the family farm near Wishek. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. Luke’s in Wishek. She attended a country school and graduated from Wishek High School Class of 1944. She continued her education attending school in Ellendale, ND. She taught for several years at country schools near Wishek. After which she moved to Bismarck, where she met Aloys “Al” Schwartzbauer while working together at a bakery. They married April 1, 1950. This union was blessed with 43 years of marriage and a son Robert William. For a short time, the family farmed in Wibuax, MT then made their home in Bismarck. Once moving back to Bismarck, she was employed by Northwestern Bell. This began her career as a telephone operator and clerk. After meeting her years of service, she was able to retire in 1983. Traveling became a highlight in her retirement years. She was a longtime member of Faith Lutheran Church in Bismarck.
Frances had a love for playing cards and was an avid pinochle player. Frances being a very accomplished seamstress, making clothes for herself, dresses for her granddaughters every year for Easter and Christmas, quilts, along with other crafts. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and embordering. She and Al were devoted square dancers at the senior center for years. They were members of multiple organizations: American Legion, Eagles, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliaries and United Commercial Travelers. She was active with the senior center in Bismarck until she moved into assisted living. She treasured being a member of the Telephone Pioneers attending their monthly luncheons as she was able up until the time of her death.
In the early 1990’s, Frances and Al began “snow birding” in Arizona with her brother Alvin, after the death of her husband, she purchased a park model in Apache Junction residing in Sun Rise RV Park; splitting her time between ND and AZ. She loved going to AZ every year, adoring the sun, warmer weather and pool. She continued to winter in AZ until the age of 92, when she moved into assisted living at Touchmark, where she then able to participate in pool activities and daily card playing.
Her family was of the utmost importance to her. After the early death of her son, she and Al were very active in assisting their daughter-in-law with the raising of their granddaughters. She never missed the annual Just Family Reunion in Wishek or traveling to the various locations throughout the country. In 1995 she was reunited with a son, Karl Salzsieder, who she had given up for adoption earlier in her life. She cherished getting to know him and his family along with the integration of his and her family.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Marilyn Schwartzbauer, Bismarck; her granddaughters, Noel (Wade) Miller, Bismarck, and Joy (Garen) Tupper, Windsor, CO; Karl (Derene) Salzsieder of Longview, WA, and grandchildren, Keith Salzsieder Phoenix AZ, Rex (Aline) Salzsieder Longview, WA, and Carey Salzsieder Dallas, TX; great-grandchildren, Braylyn Milller, Talen Tupper, Adam and Sarah-Marie Salzsider; her brothers, Delmar (Pat) Just, Cottage Grove, WI, and Victor (Sharon) Yellville, AR; her sisters, Audrey Boschee and Delores Meidinger of Wishek; sisters-in-law, Virginia and Florence Just, Wishek, and Margaret Schwartzbauer, Dickinson, ND; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Aloys; son, Robert; parents, Gustav and Barbara; brothers, Ervin, Alvin, Edgar; and one sister, Frieda Hoff.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials to the Bismarck Senior Center or Faith Lutheran Church.
