Frederick S. Jaszkowiak, 68, Bismarck, passed away on December 4, 2019 in his home with his loving wife at his side. He had a long 41-year battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 9, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 806 E Broadway, Bismarck.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 8, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E Divide Ave, Bismarck. A rosary/vigil service will begin at 5:00 p.m.
Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 9 at the ND Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Fred was born in Bismarck on May 29, 1951, the 13th child of Paul and Pansy (Oxford) Jaszkowiak.
Fred graduated from Bismarck High School in 1970. He was drafted that same year and served in the Army 1st armored Division in Germany. He was a Sergeant paymaster. He attended the Furth College in Germany. He received a degree from Bismarck State College in Microbiology. He worked as a microbiologist for the USDA Veterinary Services for 37 years.
Fred married the love of his life, Mary M. Kraft (daughter of John and Mary Masseth Kraft) on November 22, 1973 and they shared 46 years of marriage.
Fred as an avid hunter proudly teaching his nephews the sport. He loved to camp. His nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces remember many weekends camping and fishing. He was a member of the American Legion of Bismarck. Fred was a kind and gentle man with a heart of gold. He was always willing to give a helping hand or to teach someone how to do things. He loved to take pictures so while Mary drove the car on trips he could photograph as they travelled.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Mary (Kraft) Jaszkowiak; his siblings, John Jaszkowiak, Billings, MT; Mary Jaszkowiak, Bismarck; William (Marlene) Jaszkowiak Laurel, MT; Dorothy Jaszkowiak Falconer, Bismarck; Thomas (Mary) Jaszkowiak, Moorhead, MN; Henry (Marlene) Jaszkowiak, Bismarck; Edward Jaszkowiak, Bismarck; Rita (Keith) Ebel Mandan; Charles (Joanne) Jaszkowiak, Bismarck; Susan Jaszkowiak, Bismarck; Beverly (Curt) Goehring, Bismarck; Andrew (Pamela) Jaszkowiak Montgomery, TX; and Donald Jaszkowiak, Bismarck; brothers and sisters-in-law, Peter Hoerner, Bismarck; Rita (Lawrence) Albrecht, Lincoln; John Kraft, Bismarck; and Joseph (Lenette) Kraft, Bismarck; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nephews and nieces; great-great nephews and nieces. He was a favorite uncle to all his nieces and nephews. Any chance he could, he loved to play Pinochle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Kenneth Jaszkowiak; a nephew, Bruce Falconer; two sisters-in-law, Grace Jaszkowiak and Norita Jaszkowiak; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Phyllis Kraft (Frank) Krumm and Marge (Kraft) Hoerner, and Deborah (Simon) Kraft; and also, great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the CHI St. Alexius Home Healthcare nurses and aides, the wonderful CHI St. Alexius Hospice nurses, aides, and chaplain.
Please give memorials in his name to the ND Veterans Cemetery or the Bismarck Cancer Center.
