Gary Hoff

June 6, 1950 — October 3, 2019

Gary Hoff, 69, Bismarck, died Thursday, October 3, 2019 at a Bismarck Hospital. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, October 8, 11:00 AM at Parkway Funeral Service 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck.

Visitation will be held Monday, October 7, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Parkway Funeral Service. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the Funeral Service.

Gary was born in Bismarck, on June 6, 1950, the son of Albert and Maggie (Wolfer) Hoff.  The family lived in Linton and when Gary was five, they moved to Bismarck.  He attended school in Bismarck, graduating from Bismarck High School in 1969. He then attended Bismarck State College and earned an Automotive Certificate.

On October 10, 1970, he married Gloria Ehli in Bismarck. They were just short of celebrating 49 years of marriage. Gloria and Gary often prayed together, and Gary’s prayer list kept getting longer and longer, that soon Gloria had to ask if they could do one prayer for everyone.

Throughout his years, Gary worked a few different jobs.  He worked construction during high school, earning enough money to buy his first Mustang. The Mustang that he allowed Gloria to drive one time, until it ended up in the ditch.  From then on, she only had to worry about being a passenger.  Gary and a friend owned and operated First and Main Mobile gas station, he helped open Scottie Muffler, worked at Radford Building Supply Company and for 30 years he worked at Allied Building Products, retiring from there in August of 2017.

Gary had a love for cars, especially his prized Mustangs.  This love for cars started at a young age, when he started to collect car magazines and do model cars. He enjoyed traveling to Arizona to the Barrett-Jackson car auction and was able to share one of the trips with his grandson Alex.

Witty was one of the many words used to describe Gary. He was always driving Gloria and his family crazy with his silly jokes and puns, keeping them laughing and on their toes. Gary was a loving husband, father and a caring friend. He was known as “Boppa” to his grandsons who he loved unconditionally and that was mutual. He enjoyed having coffee with his buddies at McDonalds and engaging with all who he met.

Those honored to share in his life are his wife, Gloria, Bismarck; daughter, Mandy (Albert) Keyser, Bismarck; those who knew him as “Boppa” Alex and Riley Hoff, Derrick Dobransky and Christian Dienert; sister Violet Redlaczyk, of Bellevue, MI; nephew, Aaron Redlaczyk, great nephew, Joel Redlaczyk; sister-in-law, Anita (Wyane) Emil, Bismarck and many members of his extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Maggie Hoff and his father and mother in law, John and Clementine “Gladys” Ehli and his three special friends, all named Jim-Jim Brendel, Jim Hausauer and Jim Bergard.
