Gary Lee Mantz, 77, Mandan, passed away on August 26, 2024, at his home surrounded by family.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, Sept. 1, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck. Family will begin greeting guests one hour prior to the service.
Gary was born June 23, 1947, in Bismarck, to Robert Sr. and Lena (Miller) Mantz. Center, ND was his stomping grounds during his childhood and graduated from Center High School in 1965. He was very athletic and excelled in sports throughout his school years. He hunted, fished and trapped this area for many decades, creating many great memories with friends and family. As a young adult he was active in softball, fishing and volleyball. He fished in multiple Governor’s Cups and won the McQuade tournament numerous times in the 80s. Gary also loved to golf. He was always learning and working to improve his swing, often passing these learnings on to other golfers. Gary had a successful working career. He spent 45 years in the banking business, making many friends and helping people with their finances. After retiring in June of 2012, Gary spent time golfing with his friends, traveling with Eileen, and visiting their children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife and soul-mate who he met in 1998, Eileen; two children, Mike Mantz and Kari (Chad) Cook, two step-children, Jamie (Sarah) Gyolai and Jason (Sara) Gyolai one sister, Mildred Leidholm, one brother, Robert (Gail) Mantz; nine grandchildren, Lexi and Max Cook (Kari’s kid’s), Bryn, Myka and Shea Gyolai (Jamie’s kids), Kayden, Kinsey, Jenna and Kai Gyolai (Jason’s kids).
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Larry, Lyle, Marvin, Ronnie, and Neal.
