Gayla Gienger passed away peacefully Friday, January 18, 2019 at Sanford Medical Center after a long battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 30, Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck ND. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at First Baptist Church, Hebron, ND at 2:00 PM CDT. Gayla was born August 27, 1954, to Adam and Dorothy (Treiber) Gienger in Dickinson. She was raised and educated in Hebron and Bismarck, graduating from Bismarck High School in 1972. She attended Bismarck Jr. College for two years. Her first job was at 1st National Bank in Bismarck. Gayla then went to work for the North Dakota Division of Vocational Rehabilitation in 1975, retiring in 2010 after 35 years of dedicated service. She also worked part-time for Target starting in 2005 and transitioned to full time in 2010. She continued working at Target until the time of her death. Gayla received Target’s Employee of the Year award in 2007 and had many customers who would “look for Gayla’s check-out line” because of her cheery disposition. Gayla enjoyed traveling and family was very important to her. She would spend many hours reminiscing about her parents who she lost at a young age. She thoroughly enjoyed life’s journey until cancer reared its ugly head. Gayla truly believed she could beat this diagnosis and approached it with a positive attitude and a determined spirit. Gayla is survived by her brother, Grant (Ella) Gienger, Centralia, WA; her nephew, Christopher (Nicole) Gienger, Ashland, TN; her best friend, Gail Daniel, Bismarck; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Dorothy Gienger; her nephew, Nathan Gienger; and grandparents, Gustav and Katharina (Doctor) Gienger and Jacob and Christina (Maas) Treiber.
