Visitation is from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Monday, September 24, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E. Divide Ave., Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm. Gerald (Jerry) was born on March 11, 1949, at Bismarck Hospital, to Eugene and Edna (Gaub) Hinsz. He graduated from Bismarck High School in 1967 and went on to attend Bismarck Junior College (BJC). Jerry served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1970-72, including a tour in Vietnam. He came home to resume his college education at BJC and worked for Jobber’s Moving & Storage. Jerry married his “lovely”, Patricia Hill, on June 9, 1972, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Bismarck, ND; where they also raised their two children, Kristin and Ross. He worked in the construction industry and obtained experience that lead to Master Plumber licensure. MedCenter One (Sanford Health) utilized his professional knowledge and experience over his dedicated 30-year career. Jerry enjoyed playing softball and league bowling with lifelong friends who have remained close over the years. Jerry also coached soccer teams for his kids. He was a Jets fan even through lean years but spent much more of the wintertime woodworking and improving his 1950’s era model train layout. He enjoyed all life had to offer; but his greatest love was his grandchildren and he readily included them in his hobbies, inspiring the next generation’s interests. He enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends, his favorite locations including Florida and Alaska. Jerry will be forever missed by his wife of 46 years, Patricia; his children, Kristin (Wyatt) Knutson of Wellington, CO and Ross (Doreen) Hinsz of Brainerd, MN; grandchildren, Madison Knutson, Benjamin, Andrew, Maureen, and Evelyn Hinsz; brother Dean (Whitey) and Toni Hinsz, Bismarck; and sister Lori (Todd) Lauf of Eden Prairie, MN. He is also survived by his sisters-in-laws and brothers-in-laws Nancy (Doug) Krebsbach, Washburn, Barb Vetter (Tom Skaro), West Fargo, and Mary (Steve) Marquart, West Fargo. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and his brother, Wayne Hinsz. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to be sent to the ND Veteran’s Cemetery, Faith Lutheran Church, or the donor’s choice.
