Gerald Miles Skogley, 92, of Bismarck, ND was called from this earth on January 6, 2024 while residing at the Baptist Home in Bismarck.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00AM, Friday, April 19th, 2024 at McCabe Methodist Church, 1030 N. 6t St., Bismarck.
Visitation begins an hour before the service.
Burial will occur at 2:00PM, Friday April 19, 2024 at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery, Mandan.
Gerald was born on November 6, 1931 in Mott, ND to the parents of Conrad and Ida Mae (Rolfe) Skogley. He attended school, graduating from Mott High School. Gerald enlisted in the North Dakota National Guard and was stationed at Camp Rucker, AL during the Korean War, being discharged in 1952. He obtained his associate degree at Bismarck Junior College, a bachelor's and master’s degree at the University of North Dakota.
Gerald married the love of his life Marilyn Hoffman on November 5, 1952 in Bismarck. They moved to Grand Forks while he attended college at UND. Together, they raised two children: David Skogley of Skokie, IL, and Karen Kroll of Redwing, MN.
He had a successful career at the University of North Dakota as their Vice President of Business and Finance until 1983 when he started a new career as Chief Financial Officer of the Bush Foundation in St. Paul, MN. Gerald and Marilyn enjoyed each other’s company while traveling the country for work conferences with clients, and entertaining friends and family at their Minnesota lake cabin. After his career at the Bush Foundation, Marilyn and Gerald returned to Bismarck in 2002 to retire, where they became faithful members of McCabe Methodist Church.
Gerald was very active in many organizations. He served on numerous foundations in ND and MN, including serving as chairman of the Shrine Hospital in the Twin Cities. He was a member of the American Legion, DAV, Freemasonry, York Rite, Scottish Rite, ROJ, Shriner’s International, Royal Order of Scotland, and Elks. Gerald’s accomplishments were the honor of serving as the Grand Master of Masons in North Dakota in 1979-1980 and recently receiving the highest honor in the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite by being elected to the Grand Cross of the Court of Honour.
Gerald is survived by his son David Skogley, Skokie, IL; daughter Karen Kroll, Redwing, MN; granddaughters, Kayley and Devon and a great-grandson, Elijah, all of Redwing, MN; sister, Roberta Swanson, Vista, CA., and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Conrad and Ida Mae; wife Marilyn; brothers, Charley, Harley, Richard, Duane, Earl and sisters, Ginni Craig and Altha Perry.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Robert Asker Scottish Rite Language Center (1009 Basin Ave., Bismarck, ND 58504) or the North Dakota Masonic Foundation (201 14th Ave N., Fargo, ND 58102).
