Jerry Theisen, 75, Mandan, died August 28, 2017, at CHI St. Alexius Health, Bismarck. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, September 1, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with Rev. Msgr. Thomas Richter officiating. Burial will be held at 2:00 pm Friday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place. Jerry was born September 11, 1941, and grew up on a farm near Raleigh, ND, until the family moved to Bismarck in 1958. He attended Flasher High School and St. Mary’s High School where he graduated in 1959. Jerry went on to join the Army Reserve and served for four years. He received an Associate degree in criminal justice and worked for the Mandan Police Department, Bismarck Police Department, Burleigh County Sheriff’s Department, and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, from where he retired. He loved working cattle with his good friends, Jack Chase and Peter Hoge, and trail riding in the Badlands of western North Dakota. He loved spending time with his beloved dog Maggie. Jerry is survived by his children, Hannah (Steve) Balaban and Cullen (Shelley) Theisen; his grandchildren, Tyler (Ciera) Carson, Rachael (Jon) TreeTop, Dallas Theisen, Margalit (Donovan Jonk) Balaban, Riley Theisen, Lacey Theisen, Peyton Theisen; and great-grandchildren, Brynn, Tavyn, and Maxden; brothers, Roman (Darlene) Theisen and Mike (Deb) Theisen; sister, Jackie (Al) Bosch; brothers-in-law, Vernon Giese and Leonard Sabot; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Hildegard Theisen; and his sisters, Doreen Sabot and Carmen Giese. In lieu of flowers, donations will be collected at the service for a honorarium in his name to Teddy Roosevelt National Park, where he most loved to ride.
