Geraldine Elizabeth (Jody) Foy was born December 26, 1949, in Ames, Iowa. She was the daughter of Dorothy Louise (Peterson) Kew and Leland Orville Kew.
After graduating from Enderlin High School, Enderlin, North Dakota in 1967, she attended the University of Minnesota, Moorhead, where she was awarded a degree in English in 1971.
Jody married Charles Martin Foy at NDSU’s St. Paul’s Newman Center on June 12, 1971, and they have lived in Bismarck since that time.
A life-long educator, Jody taught English at Bismarck High for thirty-six years. For over a decade, she also served as chairman of the BHS English Department. In addition to these duties, she was also secretary for Boy Scout Troop Two while her sons were in Scouting and was involved for many years at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in the Funeral Ministry, as a Eucharistic Minister and as an Altar Assistant.
She will be remembered by thousands of her students as a caring, enthusiastic, and dedicated instructor. She was known for being hard working and generous with her time in both her professional and personal life. Her selfless dedication to the needs of her family at-large was well known and greatly appreciated. In retirement, she enjoyed many cruise experiences, fine dining, and caring for the special birds in her life. Most of all, she treasured peace and harmony.
Jody was preceded in death by her grandfather J. Roy Peterson in 1992, her grandmother Ednah Elizabeth (Douglass) Peterson in 2007, and her son Martin John Foy in 1996. She is survived by her husband Charles Martin and two children: Christina Elizabeth (Ina) Foy (Paul Mertens) Diemen, Netherlands, and Michael Douglass Foy (Sydney) Fargo, ND. Jody has one sister, Cynthia Lee Briggs (Bob) Urbana, Iowa, and one half-sister, Anita Louise Fossum (Alan) Bellevue, WA, her mother Dorothy Louise (Peterson) Kew Kunz, Bellevue, WA, and her father Leland Orville Kew, Willis, TX.
