Glen Masset, 54, Bismarck, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2020. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Christ the King Church, 505 10th Ave NW, Mandan.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck. A rosary/vigil service will begin at 7:00 p.m.
Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at the ND Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
He was born in Linton, North Dakota on November 4, 1965.
He enlisted in the North Dakota National Guard in November 1982 as a Combat Engineer Soldier, where he served in both enlisted and officer positions. In May 1989, he graduated from North Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Construction Management and Engineering and entered Active Duty with a Regular Army commission in the Corps of Engineers. He is also a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College, the Combined Army Staff Service School, the Army Officers Advanced Course, the Engineer Officer’s Basic Course, and the Army’s Jungle Warfare and Airborne Schools.
Colonel Masset’s troop assignments included Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer, 5th Engineer Battalion, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Company Commander, 16th Engineer Battalion, Bamberg, Germany. He took command of the 9th Engineer Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany on June 22, 2005 and deployed as a commander of Task Force 9th Engineers (Gila) to Operation Iraqi Freedom from September 2006 to November 2007. His staff assignments included Maintenance Officer, 130th Engineer Brigade, Hanau, Germany; Engineer Observer/Controller, Combat Maneuver Training Center, Hohenfels, Germany; Equipment Officer and S-3 Operations Officer, 937th Engineer Group, and Executive Officer, 1st Engineer Battalion, Fort Riley, Kansas; Deputy Chief of Staff, and Chief, Training Integration Office, U.S. Army Engineer School, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Deputy Engineer Division Chief, Logistics Directorate, Headquarters, United States European Command, Stuttgart, Germany; and Commander and District Engineer, Little Rock District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Little Rock, Arkansas. He was retired from the Armed Forced on September 30, 2013 after 31 years of honorable service.
Colonel Masset has served in the following Operations: Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Joint Endeavors, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom (OIF I and OOIF 06-08).
His military awards include the Bronze Star Medal with oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Joins Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with oak leaf cluster, and a Silver de Fleury Medal.
He is survived by his wife Peggy Masset, daughter Dr. Rachael (Brett) Garske, son Matthew Masset, parents Wilfred and Veronica Masset, sister Sheila (Jim) Kringle, brother Timothy (Denise) Masset, and sister Michele Eckmann.
He is preceded in death by grandparents: Anton and Perry Masset, and George and Francis Gross.
