Rolette

Gordon “Gordy” Oscar Dohlen, Rolette, ND, passed away on July 20, 2024.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00PM, Saturday, August 24 at Ox Creek Cemetery with a reception to follow.

Gordy was born in Rolette, North Dakota on July 28, 1945. He was a graduate of Rolette High School and found his purpose tending the land. He happily lived his whole life on the family farm that he loved never wanted to be anywhere else. He was a determined and hard worker and was always willing to lend a hand when needed. When he ‘retired’ from farming he worked for other farmers. He just could not get farming out of his blood.

Gordy spent 36 very happy years with his partner, Carol Church. Despite usually being a quiet man, he had numerous friends and neighbors he liked to visit with, mostly to talk about farming. He had many good years deer hunting with the neighbors. A lot of good memories were made with them (and I’m sure some tall tales as well haha). He enjoyed bowling league for years and playing cards, loved to read and enjoyed a good western show, right up to the end.

Gordy lived a very simple yet fulfilling life, his accomplishments will be celebrated and he’ll be sorely missed by those that loved him. He found solace and purpose on the family farm, his heart's true home where he always wished to be. There, where his journey began, it also peacefully concluded.

Rest easy Dad, your hard work is done.

He is survived by his partner, Carol Church, Rolette; children, Natalie Haagenson, Minot; Chad Dohlen, Minneapolis, Danielle Dohlen, Mandan, Cathie (Lee) Logan, St. Louis; grandchildren, Melora (Paul), Turtle Lake, Melaina, Minot, Kaleah, St. Louis, and great-grandchildren, Georg & Henri, Turtle Lake.

Gordy was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Florence Dohlen and many good neighbors and good friends.

The family would like to extend a thank you to Home Helpers and Caregivers for the great care he received by them.
