Greg Haugland, 74, Garrison, passed away July 15, 2024 surrounded by his family at Sanford Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 19 at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck. Family will greet guests one hour prior.
Greg was born August 31, 1949 to Goodwin and Marlys (Molander) Haugland in Crosby. He grew up with his four siblings on the farm and kept his love and appreciation of farming with him for the rest of his life. He was raised and educated in Crosby, graduating with the Class of ’67.
He furthered his education at UND Williston and Dickinson State University where he received his bachelor’s of education. He later attended North Dakota State University to receive his master’s in administration. He enjoyed a fulfilling career in both education and administration, working in South Heart, Beulah, Bismarck and Kenmare. His career led him to coaching, where he encouraged student athletes to push themselves and succeed in their sport. Over the years, he coached basketball, cross-country, and volleyball. Greg served on the North Dakota High School Activities Assocaition (NDHSAA). He retired from education in 2007.
On December 27, 1970, Greg married Joanne Hauff in Beulah, ND. The two enjoyed raising their two daughters and spending time with grandchildren. Greg’s peace was at Mosset Bay in Lake Sakakawea where the family often had get-togethers. In retirement, Greg and Joanne spent their days traveling, including the many years they spent in Mazatalan, Mexico and on cruises creating lasting memories with special friends. Greg and Joanne spent many winters in Texas – every October he was itching to head south for the winter and wasn’t quick to return in the spring!
Greg enjoyed spending time with his friends. He adopted many outdoor activities like snow-skiing, softball, camping at Downstream campground, and driving his boat. He was not one to ever get in the water – he claimed he was “the owner and operator” of the boat instead! Greg was a die-hard Green Bay Packer fan making a trip with special friends to Lambeau Field 14 years in a row. In his later years, he enjoyed playing golf and appreciated the social aspect of it.
Greg is survived by his wife, Joanne; children, Tami (Caleb) Glass and Kari (Aaron) Edland; grandchildren, Perrin (Summer) Goetzfridt, Trevor (Cadee) Goetzfridt, Brynn Glass, Allyson Glass, Joel Edland, Andrew Edland, and Sophia Edland; one great-grandchild, Micah Goetzfridt; siblings, Mark (Peggy) Haugland, Kent (DeDe) Haugland, and Joan (Joe) McCusker; sister-in-law, Diane Haugland; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Butch Haugland; and his parents, Goodwin and Marlys.
