Our Dad, Harry Eugene Iszler, was born September 11, 1930, in Kidder County, ND, to Gottlieb and Mary (Wolt) Iszler. He grew up on the Iszler Farm northwest of Streeter. Harry graduated from Streeter High School and was drafted into the Army and served from 1952-1953 during the Korean War. He attended Jamestown College and Wahpeton State College. In 1953 he began farming and ranching with his father in Tanner Township, Kidder County-Herefords roamed the range. Harry and Leona (Hoffer) raised five children, Bernadean Pauline-Leona, Holly Ann, Michael Anthony, Mary Jean, and Timothy James. Harry served for 10 years as a Senator in the North Dakota Legislature representing District 31. During that time he served as chairman for the Agricultural Committee and Judiciary Committee. Harry enjoyed serving his district and the State of North Dakota, often talked about the joy of getting things done for his community. In 1980, North Dakota State University purchased the farm and it became The Central Grassland Research Center. Harry married Peg Warren and they have lived in Bismarck for over 20 years caring for a large garden. Harry looked forward to spring when he could put the garden out and go fishing. Harry worked for the North Dakota Ag. Department and North Dakota Game and Fish. He was proud of the CoverLocks Program and the PLOTS program. He enjoyed working with farmers, being outdoors, drinking warm Coke, and spitting sunflower seeds. Our dad taught us to work hard, have a back-up plan, Herefords are better than Angus, and always plant your potatoes on Good Friday. Harry is survived by his wife, Peg; his children, Bernadean Pauline-Leona Iszler, Aurora, CO, Holly Ann (Dennis) Becker, Sioux Falls, SD, Michael Anthony (Sarah) Iszler, Tucson, AZ, Mary Jean Iszler, Steele, ND, and Timothy James (Elizabeth) Iszler, Hollywood, FL; one brother, Norlyn (Shirley) Iszler, Streeter; 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Milton, Thilmer, and Jimmey; one sister, Florence; and a granddaughter, Abby. Memorials may be made to Melvin E. Bender American Legion Post 265, Streeter, ND, 58483 or the ND Veterans Cemetery, 1825 46th St., Mandan, ND, 58554. Thank you for taking the time to honor our Dad today. Peace and grace.
