Hazel Isabella (Binder, Danielson) Hagel, 91, Mandan, beloved Mom, grandma, great-grandma, and great-great-grandma died peacefully Friday, June 8, 2018. Funeral service will be held 11:00 am on Monday, June 18 (Hazel’s Birthday) at English Lutheran Church, Tuttle, ND, with Rev. Lee Herberg officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Sunday, June 17, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 East Divide Avenue, Bismarck. Hazel was the oldest of seven children born to Adam and Katie (Heidt) Binder at the family farm near Tuttle, ND, on June 18, 1926. Hazel attended Langedahl Country School and graduated from Tuttle High School in 1945. Hazel was the “hired girl” for the neighbors down the road, the Danielson’s, and later married their oldest son, Stanley on June 16, 1946. Early in their marriage, Stanley and Hazel moved to “The Gulch” southwest of Tuttle, where they lovingly raised their six children. Hazel’s beloved Stanley was killed in a farm accident, February 15, 1974. Hazel continued to reside on the farm and in 1976 she married David Hagel and moved to his family farm in Tappen. Later the two of them bought a home in Steele, sadly though, in 1991, she lost David to an illness. Mom continued to reside in Steele until 2005 when a serious car accident and resulting rehab caused her to uproot again and she moved to a senior independent living center, Liberty Heights, in Mandan. She remained there, even playing bingo at the center the Friday before her stroke and, as she would say – “I won twice”. Hazel will be deeply missed by her family and remembered for her great wit and the many gatherings she hosted throughout the years. It didn’t matter who was at her table, (deer hunters, hired men, neighbors, family or friends) she always greeted you with something deliciously homemade and maybe, if you were lucky, a slice of her great kuchen! Hazel is survived by her children, Diane (Bruce) Livingston, Tuttle, Norene (Roger) Sandberg, Mandan, Kent (Nancy) Danielson, Bismarck, Jean (Gordy) Strandemo, Mandan, and Oren Danielson, Bismarck; 17 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; her siblings, LeeRoy (Donna) Binder, Bismarck, Florence (Gerald) Murray, Steele, John (Diane) Binder, Steele, Dennis (Marlene) Binder, Bismarck, and Denice (Ron) Rothlisberger, Huff. Hazel was preceded in death by her first husband, Stanley, (married for 28 years); her second husband, David (married for 15 years); her son, Darvin; her parents, her mother-in-law and father-in-law; and one sister, Vivian.
