Helen Richter

Helen K. (Fettig) Richter, 93, Bismarck, passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2022.

Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m., Monday, Feb. 28 at Church of Corpus Christi, 1919 N. 2^nd Street, Bismarck. Visitation will be held Sunday, Feb. 27 from 3 until 4 p.m. at Eastgate Funeral Services, 2302 E. Divide Ave., Bismarck, with a rosary service at 4 p.m.

Interment will be held at the N.D. Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Helen was born in Napoleon, N.D. on October 4, 1928 to Benedict and Magdalena (Wangler) Fettig. She grew up in Napoleon with her three sisters and three brothers.

She married Elmer Richter on November 16, 1953 and they had four children. They eventually made their home in Bismarck and Elmer passed away on February 2, 1994. 

She enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins, eating German food, listening to polka music, reading the daily paper with her morning coffee, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They always brought a smile to her face. Helen had been a member of the Church of Corpus Christi since 1965.

She is survived by her four children: Jeff Richter, Rene (Carl) Lafferty, Debra Richter, and Tom (Sandy) Richter; five grandchildren, Megan (John) Wildey, Melissa Lafferty, Matt Lafferty, Todd Richter and Becca Richter; and three great-grandchildren, Mason Mosbrucker-Lafferty, Amelia and Charlotte Wildey. She is also survived by one sister, Mary Mehling, Fresno, CA; six sisters-in-law, (Agnes Fettig, MaryKay Lanz, Virginia Waclawik, Donna Jacobs, Ramona Richter, and Yvonne Richter); one brother-in-law, (Dennis Lanz), and many nieces and nephews.   

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elmer, her daughter-in-law, Gale Richter, two sisters (Margaret Kasch and Eva Meyers), three brothers, (Wendelin Fettig, Andy Fettig, and Bennie Fettig), seven brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
