Irene E. Thorson, 88, Bismarck, died June 30, 2017, at Prospera Sanford off Sunset, Mandan. Services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, July 7, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Wing, with Pastor Trish DeBoer officiating. Burial will be held at Union Cemetery, Wing. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Thursday, July 6, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E. Divide Ave., Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Irene was born January 3, 1929, to Victor and Ida (Carlson) Franklund. She grew up around the Wilton area, attended schools there, and graduated from Wilton High School in 1947. Irene met Theodore Thorson at a dance in Regan and they were married on November 1, 1947. Together they farmed southwest of Wing in Lyman Township, where the couple raised five children. Irene enjoyed knitting, crocheting, crossword puzzles, putting puzzles together, square dancing, bird watching, bowling, and visiting and meeting new people. She loved her family and keeping up with all they were doing, and she always made it a priority to attend family events no matter how far she would have to travel. Irene was proud of the fact that she and Theodore had traveled to all 50 states. Irene is survived by her children, Beverly (Allen) Vollmer and Jerry (Dawn), both of Wing, Darlene (Roger) Holznagel, Pelican Rapids, MN, Charlette (Gordon) Moe, Hawley, MN; grandchildren, Tamra (Tony) Heins, Troy (Sara) Vollmer, Jennifer (Rick) Nitschke, David (Lauren) Thorson, Stephanie Holznagel, Christopher (Lindsay) Holznagel, Gavin (Danyel) Moe and Garner Moe; 19 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; brother, Paul (Edna) Franklund; sister, Avis (Larry) Christlieb; sisters-in-law, Bernice Franklund, Ruth Franklund, Frances Schacher; and two special nephews, Calvin and Steven Thorson and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore; daughter, EllaRae; granddaughter, Nicole Thorson; brothers, Ulane “Buster”, Victor Jr., Leonard (Francie), Ray (Jeanette); and sister, Grace (Marlin) Baranyk; and brothers-in-law, Elmer Thorson, Laurence Franklund, and Richard Schacher.
