James Jefferson

James (Jim) Edward Jefferson, Senior, 73, of Mandan, North Dakota, passed away on March 31, 2023.

Jim was born on June 21, 1949, to Clem and Agnes (Ninow) Jefferson in Minot, North Dakota. He was raised in Flaxton, North Dakota. After graduating from high school, he moved to Williston, North Dakota. While working on a farm in Watford City, North Dakota, he met the love of his life, Ellen Pittsley. Jim and Ellen were married on September 26, 1975. They made their early home in Williston and went on to have four children.

Jim worked for John Iverson in Williston until they closed. He had the opportunity attend to North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, North Dakota, where he earned a degree in Parts Merchandise and Management. Jim ended his career working at Bismarck State College, in the Automotive Technology department.

Jim put his family first and was a dedicated father. He loved watching his children play sports and participate in activities. He also enjoyed coaching and helping out at his childrens’ sporting events and activities.

Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing Pinochle. Jim joined the North Dakota “Whopper Club” in 1984, for his 8 pound 10 ounce walleye he caught. He also enjoyed driving around viewing the North Dakota scenery.

Some of his proudest moments were when his four grandchildren were born and the time he got to spend with them. Jim was a dedicated grandfather and his face would light up any time he got to see his grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his wife, Ellen; children James Junior, Heather (Derek) O’Connor, Curtis Jefferson, and Kyle (Tiffany) Jefferson; grandchildren Kirra, Jalyn, Corbin, and Cael; brothers Larry (Bea) Jefferson, Charles (Nancy) Jefferson; sister Dee Shumake; sisters- and brothers-in-laws, many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Many other friends, relatives, special friends Craig Roll and the ladies of Caring Edge.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Clem and Agnes Jefferson; father- and mother-in-law Glenn and Betty Pittsley; brothers-in-law Bub, LeRoy, and David Pittsley, David Arnold, and Craig Shumake; sisters-in-law Della Norby, Louise Arnold, and Merly Pittsley.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, April 10, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Pkwy, Bismarck.
