Jan Benz

Jan Benz, 59, Bismarck, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2018, at Banner Baywood Medical Center, Mesa, AZ. Mesa was a place he truly loved and enjoyed spending his recent winters. Services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, March 13, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3rd Street and Ave A, Bismarck, with Rev. Paul Schick officiating. Burial will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Monday, March 12, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 E. Divide Ave., Bismarck. Jan was born June 20, 1958, in Hazen, ND, to Erwin and Rhea Benz. He graduated from Hazen High School, Bismarck Junior College, and Mary College. He spent over 30 years as a dedicated employee of MDU Resources Group. Jan married Wanda Lee on October 27, 1984. In 1990, Anthony James arrived and in 1995, Jennifer Lee arrived. Jan was very proud of Anthony’s musical talents and Jennifer’s athletic talents. Much time was spent attending concerts, musicals, basketball games, cross-country and track meets. Jan also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and his Dodge Challenger. Jan is survived by his wife of 33 plus years, Wanda, Bismarck; son, Anthony, Indianola, IA; daughter, Jennifer, Sioux Falls, SD; sister, Geri Schmall, Rochester, MN; brothers, Deryl (Chris), Indianapolis, IN, and Ryan (Lora Lee), Fargo, ND; and many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be given in Jan’s memory to the Banquet at Trinity Lutheran Church.
